"The 'missing link' in my private practice"

Theresa Haney LCAT, ADTR

RDI© Consultant in Training

Integrating the RDI© principles into practice has given me stronger foundation as a clinician working with familes effected by autism. I have always felt that Damselfly's programs held similar principles as RDI©, yet never realized how my dance therapy specialty would play such a vital role in this process, helping families find the dance of life with their children.

Sincerely,

Theresa

RDI© Relationship Development     Intervention is often called the "missing link" in the treatment of autism. RDI© is a cognitive-developmental program that teaches dynamic intelligence through guided participation in order to remediate the core deficits of Autism Spectrum Disorders.

Remediation is a developmental process that assesses the period in development where an individual failed to progress. RDI© systematically repairs developmental stages by identifying the objective needed to be mastered in order to progress socially and emotionally.

Guided participation is a master-apprentice relationship that uses spotlighting and scaffolding during deliberate and slowed down, real life opportunities for the apprentice to discover. These opportunities lead to a felt sense of competence which become the motivation for further discoveries.

RDI© Consultants guide parents to a thorough understanding of autism and the core deficits that impede on quality of life. Consultants perform 6-step RDA Assessment as the basis for developing an individualized plan for remediation.

RDI© addresses:

Motivation

Communication skills

Emotional Regulation

Episodic Memory

Rapid Attention-Shifting

Self- Awareness

Appraisal

Executive Functioning

Flexible Thinking

Creative Problem-Solving.
